Lasqoray (SD) – Al-Shabaab fighters have reportedly taken control of Gurya-samo village on the outskirts of Lasqoray district in Sanaag region.
An armed group of about 50 Al-Shabaab fighters arrived in Gurya-samo area yesterday afternoon, where they set up military barracks.
The militant leaders are said to still be there and have spoken to civilians in public, calling their operation there a security sweep.
Al-Shabaab forces are said to have been hiding for a while in the mountains not far from Gurya-samo.
Authorities in Somaliland and Puntland who both claim the region to be part of their jurisdiction, didn’t yet address the issue.
