Puntland declares ceasefire as fighting with PSF enters second day

BOSSASO (SD) – Puntland government has today announced a unilateral cease-fire, saying it would take effect immediately.

Peaking to the media, Puntland security minister Abdisamad Mohamed Gallan has expressed his government readiness for dialogue to end the fighting.

“We are ready for any dialogue that will end the fighting and end the displacement without compromising the rule of law,” Gallan said.

The remarks of Puntland government come hours after its forces engaged hours long fighting with Puntland Security Forces (PSF).

Businesses, the airport and the Bosaso port remained shut as the streets now remain empty as people kept off at their homes.

The commandant Mohamed Diyano has not yet commented on the ceasefire declared by Puntland authorities.

On Tuesday, US government has called for an immediate ‘end to the fighting,

“We urge an immediate end to hostilities in Bossaso and a return to dialogue to find a negotiated, peaceful resolution. Continued fighting will only inflict further harm on Bossaso and its people,” the US embassy in Mogadishu said in a tweet.
