Mogadishu (SD) – A number of African Union Mission troops (AMISOM) in Somalia are said to have contracted the Coronavirus, according to The East African.
Sources in AMISOM confirmed to The East African newspaper that 37 AMISOM troops were infected with COVID19, 30 Ugandans and seven Burundians.
The 37 AMISOM soldiers who were infected are said to be in Halane camp, and the details of their health condition is not known.
The anxiety in the camp is said to be high, there are fears that the virus has spread and could spread faster.
Since the outbreak of the disease in Somalia, AMISOM has slowed its operations against al-Shabaab, with the exception of a stringent security operation in parts of Lower Shabelle.
Al-Shabaab, which is fighting the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and the Somali government, has already said that the disease is a problem that has been sent to the disbelievers.
