BOSSASO (SD) – Details have emerged about a heavy airstrike carried out last night by Puntland forces and their international partners targeting ISIS militants in parts of the Bari region.
The strike specifically hit bases used by insurgent groups in the valleys and mountainous areas under the jurisdiction of the Iskushuban district in Bari.
Reports indicate that the airstrike destroyed significant militant facilities and killed senior ISIS members, according to Puntland officials. The officials added that operations in the Bari region will be intensified until the remaining militants are apprehended.
The situation remains tense, with military movements observed in the mountainous terrain of the Bari region in Puntland, Somalia.
Meanwhile, no official statement has been issued by the United States regarding last night’s airstrikes, which continued into parts of Bari through this morning. This is not the first time airstrikes against ISIS fighters have occurred in these areas, as similar operations have taken place in recent years in the mountains of Iskushuban and Galgala.
Puntland has now launched an intensified military campaign, dubbed Lightning, aimed at clearing ISIS militants from the mountainous areas of the Bari region.
