May 01, 2023 (SD) – The governor of Banadir region and the mayor of Mogadishu Yusuf Hussein Jimale Madale announced today that in Mogadishu the trade and use of drugs such as Shisha, Taboo, hashish, and alcohol are banned.
Governor Yusuf Madaale also ordered that all businesses operating within the city of Mogadishu must be closed by midnight.
The governor’s directive came after a meeting he held today at the regional government headquarters with a group of businesspeople who recently had their premises shut down by the Banadir administration for allegedly violating licensing regulations.
The affected business owners were present at the meeting and were informed of the governor’s decision to ban the use of Shisha, Taboo, hashish, and alcohol, which he said were posing a significant threat to the environment and the health of the youth in the city.
The ban on the use and trade of Shisha, Taboo, hashish, and alcohol will be enforced immediately, and failure to comply will result in strict penalties, including fines and the closure of businesses.
Just last weekend, the Banadir administration launched a massive crackdown on the use and trade of plastic bags, bottles, and straws in the city, following the governor’s announcement of the ban.
