Borama (SD) – The Somaliland government announced that the first person to die from the Coronavirus / Covid-19 has died in the country today.

Somaliland health minister speaking to the media in Hargeisa confirmed that the deceased lived in Borama, Awdal region and was symptomatic at the time of his death.

Sources confirmed to somalidispatch.com , that his burial was orchestrated by the state, with abundance of caution, staff with hazmat suits were seen handling the body at a Borama cemetery.

The Borama man who died from the disease is said to have been a teenager, he died prior to his COVID-19 test coming back from abroad.

The death seemed to have changed minds on the seriousness of the virus, Somalilanders were slow to heath authorities warnings in preventing the spread of the virus in the country.
