Captured ISIS foreign officer: Militants are mostly composed of foreigners

BOSSASO (SD)-The Puntland Security Forces (PSF) command presented to the media a foreign officer who was a member of the ISIS militants, captured in the Almis Mountains in the Bari region.

The foreign officer captured by the Puntland security forces is from Zanzibar Island, and he identified himself as Cimraan Maxamed Calawi.

According to a recorded statement translated into Somali, Cimraan Maxamed Calawi is providing information about the ISIS militants present in the Bari region mountains.

The prisoner, Alawi, admitted to being a member of the ISIS terrorist group and participating in battles between ISIS and Al-Shabaab. He added that the ISIS militants in the Almis area are mostly foreigners.

“ISIS is mostly composed of foreigners from Ethiopia, I have seen some from Malawi, and I have seen some from Yemen. There are few Somalis, and foreigners are the majority,” said Imran Mohamed Alawi.

This former ISIS officer also mentioned that he was captured after escaping the last airstrike targeting ISIS, which occurred near Qandala on May 31 of this year.
