COVID- 19 cases increase in Somalia, government says

Mogadishu (SD) – Somalia’s Federal Minister of Health Fowsiyo Abikar Nur confirmed today that the number of cases of COVID-19 registered in the country has increased in the past two months.

The minister added that covid tests conducted in the country from January 1st to 31st and from February 1st to 11th this year found that cases increased by 52% and deaths increased, indicating a recurrence of the virus.

The Ministry of Health said that the society needs to be aware of the risks, and pay high-level attention to them, taking all necessary precautions in preventing the spread of the virus.

Fowsiyo Abikar Nur noted that they have prepared a plan to share information on the virus with the public, and have increased its testing capacity, through private companies being given permission to test for the disease, as travelers are now required to have a positive COVID-19 test.

The total number of people tested in last 24 hours was 1,529, with 90 Covid positive cases, 5,273 overall active cases, 3,750 recovered and 154 deaths.
