The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) and Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International have sent a joint letter to Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.
In the letter, the three organizations expressed concern over the recent amendments to the Somali Media Law, and called on the President to take concrete steps to protect the freedom of the media and the safety of journalists.
The organisations called on the President to address these issues ahead of the Parliamentary and Presidential elections scheduled for late 2020 and early 2021 in Somalia.
A copy of the letter is available here.
