Mogadishu (SD) – An operation carried out by the specially trained Danab commandos killed key Al-Shabaab militia leaders who were plotting to murder civilians, according to state radio.

Danab carried out the operation on the outskirts of Leego, particularly in Sahan-yarey village in Walan-weyn district, where they killed leaders including Abdiaziz Awowe, the official in charge intelligence in the Lower Shabelle region, the head of the group’s explosives unit (Abu Qadaab) and six militiamen accompanying him.

The operation also reportedly destroyed an Al Shabab courthouse in the region.

Danab commandos have in recent months stepped up operations to hunt down al-Shabaab fighters and their leaders in the southern regions of the country.
