Djibouti calls for more seats for Africa at the UN Security Council

Djibouti (SD) – Djiboutian Foreign Minister Mahmoud Ali Youssouf in an exclusive interview with Russia’s SPUTNIK state run news agency says Africa needs more fair and just presence at the UN Security Council.

He said they wanted to see the United Nations Security Council reformed and that African countries should have more presence in the Security Council.

The call by Djiboutian Foreign Minister Mahmoud Ali Youssouf comes one year after Djibouti lost a UN Security Council seat to Kenya 129 to 62 votes.

The 193-nation General Assembly elects five non-permanent members of the 15-member Security Council each year.

Last week, Ghana and Gabon became non-permanent members of the UN Security Council from 2022 to 2023.
