Hargeisa (SD) – Wadani Khadar party secretary general Khadar Hussein Abdi at a press conference today in Hargeisa accused the Somaliland government for interfering in the mayoral elections in Burao, Las Anod and Odweyne.
“Elections for the mayors and deputy mayors of Las Anod and Burao have been postponed for no reason and by ministers who fear that the defeat will lead to their removal from office.” Said the secretary.
The secretary told the accused Somaliland ministers to respect the people, the religion and the culture.
The Ministry of Interior has not issued a statement explaining the reasons for the postponement of the elections in Burao, Las Anod and Odweyne.
Lastly, the Secretary made a plea to the government “I call on the government not to corrupt local councils. Bribery is corruption.”
The Somaliland government has postponed the mayoral elections in the towns of Burao, Las Anod and Odweyne after opposition councilors won a majority in those local councils.
