DJIBOUTI (SD) -The government of Djibouti today addressed the recent dispute between Somalia and Ethiopia stemming from the recently signed MoU between Abiy Ahmed, the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, and the outgoing President of Somaliland Muse Bihi.
The agreement stipulates that Ethiopia will build a naval base in the coastal areas of Somaliland, in exchange for Somaliland’s recognition.
Djibouti’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement on the territorial dispute between the Ethiopian government and Somalia, underlined the importance of maintaining stability and territorial integrity among the IGAD member states.
High-ranking officials of the Federal Government and the two houses of the Somali Parliament strongly condemned the agreement, considering it a threat to Somalia’s sovereignty and unity.
