Djibouti (SD) – The government of Djibouti has denied reports in Social Media that President Ismail Omar Guelleh is in poor health.
The news of Djibouti President’s health condition has been widely circulated on social media, with reports that the president is in critical condition and has been flown to France.
Djiboutian Foreign Minister Mahmoud Ali Youssouf issued a statement today denying reports of the president’s poor health, saying he was in Djibouti and in good health.
“President Ismail Omar Guelleh is fine. All the rumors circulating about his health are far from the truth, he took a few days off, and underwent medical tests related to restlessness. He did not leave the country all summer, ”said Mohamud Ali Yusuf.
Djibouti’s foreign minister added that the president was in “very good condition” and hoped to return to work in the coming days.
Reports from Djibouti say that President Guelleh’s health deteriorated recently and has been taken to France for treatment, but the report didn’t indicate the sort of illness the President is suffering from.
President Guelleh has ruled the country since 1999 and has been accused of stifling all democratic efforts during his reign.
