Dr. Edna Adan elected first woman UNPO President

BRUSSELS (SD) – Dr. Edna Adan Ismail, one of the advisers to the President of Somaliland, has been elected President of UNPO, a non-governmental organization based in The Hague, Netherlands.

Elisenda Palusie Catalonia, elected first vice president, and Rubina Greenwood, was also elected second vice president of the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization.

It is noteworthy that Abdi Mahdi was also elected to represent the Ogaden issue.

Founded in 1991, UNPO advocates for marginalized communities, the organization also works on human rights, democracy and the right to self-determination.

Dr. Edna Adan Ismail, a well-known and outspoken at times advocates for Somaliland’s independence and is currently Somaliland’s special envoy to stalled Somaliland-Somalia talks.
