Mogadishu (SD) – Dr. Hawa Abdi, a famous humanitarian doctor who spent most of her life serving the community, has passed away today in Mogadishu.
Dr. Hawa Abdi has been working in the fields of health and peace building for more than half a century, and is remembered for her achievements in Somalia during the country’s civil wars.
Dr. Hawa Abdi Dhiblawe, was born in Mogadishu in 1947. She will be remembered for building a hospital for mothers and children and other patients on the outskirts of Mogadishu.
She worked very hard in fighting for human rights and treated vulnerable people, especially mothers and children by establishing a camp for IDPs to receive shelter and medical care.
Government officials and public figures have mourned her death, describing the Doctor as a strong pillar of the Somali people.
