Mogadishu January 25, 2023 (SD) – The Federal Government of Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abshir Ahmed Haruse, officially opened a conference on the Criteria for Joining the East African Community in Mogadishu.

The East African Community (EAC) has recently begun the process of formally accepting Somalia as a full member of the organization, to expand economic opportunities in the region.

The conference was attended by representatives from the EAC and discussed the easiest way for Somalia to join the organization and other related matters.

The President’s Envoy of the East African Community, Abdisalam Cumar Hadliye, explained the importance of the conference taking place in Mogadishu and said that the conference will determine the current status of Somalia’s membership in the organization.
