Hargeisa (SD) – The President of Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi, today met with the Somaliland Electoral Commission at the Presidential Palace, amid ongoing controversy over holding the country’s elections.
The President listened to a lengthy report from the Commission, on their proposed election schedule in holding the Local and House of Representatives.
The commission also informed president Bihi that they had presented their election schedule to the national parties, and said they were committed to holding the elections on time.
Muse Bihi commended the committee for their efforts in preparing for the elections, and encouraged them to ensure that the elections are held on time in Somaliland, urging them to speed up preparations for voter registration process.
In their last report, the commission laid out financial and judicial challenges in holding the country’s election, but did not mention those obstacles in today’s meetings with the president.
Finally, the President and the Somaliland Electoral Commission agreed to work together to address the challenges facing the holding of the elections.
