Ethiopia: Fighting erupts again in Garba Isse town

Addis Abba (SD) – News reports from Ethiopia say that the fighting between Somalis and Afar in Ethiopia has erupted again in the town of Garba Isse.

The fighting follows last week’s clashes in the area, which has killed scores of Somalis.

The Report adds that the fighting is between Somali pastoralists and militias from the Afar region.

“People we contacted told us that between 350 and 400 people were killed there,” said Mohamed Roble Mohamud, deputy information minister for the Somali Regional State in Ethiopia.

The town of Garba Isse is located on the road between Ethiopia and Djibouti.

The Somali Regional State of Ethiopia, in a released statement said they would protect the Somali people in the Garba Isse area and surrounding areas.

The statement comes after fighting broke out in the area last Saturday in which many Somalis were killed after Afar forces took control of the area.
