ADDIS ABABA (SD) – The Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed, said on Thursday that his country will never go to war with Somalia, expressing their desire for mutual respect and cooperation. He also emphasized that Ethiopia believes in the unity of Somalia, unlike other nations.
Abiy also said that his government cannot be doubted whether it believes in the unity of Somalia or not, as he said.
Abiy Ahmed said that in the last decade, Ethiopia has lost thousands of soldiers in search of peace in Somalia – and there is no other country that has made such a sacrifice.
Prime Minister Abiy said that during a four-day meeting in Addis Ababa with members of the Central Committee of the ruling party in Ethiopia.
A resolution issued by the committee today and broadcasted in the Ethiopian media, said that the Prosperity Party (PP) Committee agreed that the agreement between the Ethiopian government and Somaliland that caused much controversy at the beginning of this month should be changed to a “to a practical agreement”, and based on the principles of exchange with neighboring countries.
The statement from the committee did not clarify whether Ethiopia is negotiating with the Federal Government of Somalia or not, but it was said that the agreement was a testimony to Ethiopia’s position in the development of the regional economy and integration and cultural relations. .
On the other hand, the Prime Minister of Ethiopia did not mention the agreement that angered the Federal Government of Somalia that Ethiopia signed with Somaliland on the 1st of this month, which gives Ethiopia 20 km of Red Sea coast, and in exchange Somaliland receives recognition.
