Ethiopian Parliament to ratify Maritime MoU with Somaliland

ADDIS ABABA (SD)-Ethiopia’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Alemu Sime, presented today to the country’s parliament the Maritime agreement between Ethiopia and Somaliland. This agreement involves Ethiopia gaining access to a port and a military base on the Red Sea in exchange for Somaliland’s recognition.

Alemu Sime informed the parliamentarians that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on January 1 between Ethiopia and Somaliland represents a substantial agreement to facilitate Ethiopia’s maritime route access.

“This will fulfill Ethiopia’s aspiration for maritime access, leading to significant improvements in logistics performance and fostering new cooperation,” stated Ethiopia’s transport minister.

Nonetheless, Ethiopia is determined to implement the agreement made with the Somaliland administration on January 1 of this year, which pertains to Ethiopia securing a portion of the Red Sea.
