Mogadishu (SD) – The European Union has appointed Tiina Intelmann as their new ambassador to Somalia, Estonia’s former ambassador to the UK.
Tiina will begin her work in September, and will take over from former EU Ambassador to Somalia Nicholas Berlanga, whose three year tenure just ended.
In a brief statement to the media, the new EU envoy announced that she would continue to work in partnership with the United Nations and the African Union.
“The European Union will work with organizations such as the UN and the African Union to strengthen the nation building, improve security and help Somalia fight piracy and terrorism, ”said Tiina Intelmann.
In addition to being a former Estonian ambassador to the UK, Tiina joined the Foreign Ministry in 1991, and was the head of the European Union Mission in Liberia from 2014 to 2017.
Ambassador Tiina Intelmann is the third Estonian diplomat to lead EU embassies abroad.
