Explosion in the outskirts of Kismayo kills scores of civilians

KISMAYO (SD) – A bomb blast near the port city of Kismayo, the capital of Lower Jubba region, has killed at least two people and injured dozens more.

Witnesses said the blast was a remote-controlled landmine, targeting a vehicle carrying civilians.

The blast targeted the vehicle in the Gabogabdhole area near Abdi Dhore on the outskirts of Kismayo.

The Jubbaland administration forces arrived at the scene and took away the dead and wounded, while the truck was completely destroyed.

According to local residents, most of the occupants of the vehicle were killed in the blast, while others were seriously injured and taken to the administrative capital.

Jubbaland administration officials have blamed Al-Shabaab for the car bomb blast in Gabogabdhole.

In the recent past, there have been similar explosions targeting public transport vehicles in different parts of the Lower Juba region.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the blast.
