Federal Electoral Commission split over released list of elected MPs

MOGADISHU (SD) – The Federal Electoral Commission (FEIT) with the Secretaries of the Lower and the Upper House have announced the results of the Parliamentary elections for both Houses in the five states and Benadir region.

Former NISA Commander Fahad Yassin has been removed from the list of HirShabelle MPs, previously suspended by the FEIT Committee.

Also not on the list is the official list of the two Houses of the Federal Parliament is Mohamed Ali Hassan the winner of the former speaker of the House Jawari’s seat, #HOP154 seat won by MP Mohamed Abdalla, #HOP204 won by Isaac Ali Subag after Minister of Defense Abdikadir Mohamed Nur (Jama) was blocked.

On the other hand, members of the Federal Electoral Commission led by the Secretary of the Commission rejected the decision of the Chairman of the Commission accusing him of acting illegally, and said that the members of the Commission did not consult with the list issued.

However, Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mohamed Hussein Roble congratulated the Federal Electoral Commission (FEIT) for announcing the results of the 11th Parliamentary and Upper House elections.

The Prime Minister also commended the State Governments, the State Electoral Commissions SEIT and the Dispute Resolution Committees for their hard work, and hoped that the election of the remaining 30 members of Parliament would be completed as soon as possible.

The Prime Minister urged the Federal Electoral Commission (FEIT) to adhere to the swearing-in of parliamentarians, on April 14, 2022 and to fulfill their constitutional duties, and calls on the Somali people and all concerned to assist the commission in carrying out its duties.
