Fighting erupts in Dhusamareb between forces loyal to two opposing candidates

DHUSAMAREB (SD) – Reports from Dhusamareb the capital of Galmudug state of Somalia confirm that a fierce fighting broke out between two Somali forces supporting two Parliamentary candidates.

Fighting broke out between security forces led by NISA’s Abdullahi Kulane Jiis and Abdirahman Abdishakur’s security personnel, both of whom are running for parliament.

The forces of the two rival candidates are said to have clashed after Abdirahman Abdishakur’s bodyguards were robbed of their phones leading to the clashes.

The Dhusamareb police chief, confirmed the fighting to the local media, adding that the situation in the town was calm.

He added that the police succeeded in arresting the soldiers involved in the fighting, adding that after an investigation, the convicted officers would be taken to a military court for justice.

Authorities in Dhusamareb have not confirmed any casualties, but warned candidates with troops in Dhusamareb that they will not allow them to disrupt security in the city.

Dhusamareb is one of the cities hosting the federal parliamentary elections, candidates with security forces are making the situation in the town tense.
