Mogadishu January 31, 2023 (SD) – The Somali government is today hosting a meeting in Mogadishu with the Defense ministers and Army Commanders of Kenya, Djibouti, and Ethiopia.
The meeting will focus on the completion of liberation operations in areas still controlled by Al-Shabaab, consolidating support from the Front-Line States, and cooperation in ongoing operations in Somalia.
The outcome of the meeting will prepare the agenda for tomorrow’s summit of Front-Line State leaders, presided over by the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Xasan Sheikh Mohamud.
The defense ministers and army commanders will discuss the measures to counter the threat posed by extremists and improve the security of the region through cooperation among the Somali National Army, African Union Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), and other non-ATMIS forces.
The summit is the first of its kind hosted by Somalia and marks the country’s progress toward restoring peace and eliminating terrorism.
