Gambol students protest against school mismanagement

Garowe (SD) – Protesting students today staged a violent protest at Gambol High School, one of the largest schools in Puntland.

Students protested were said to be against replaced teachers and increased tuition fees, the protestors attacked school officials, and vandalized principal’s car.

The school was in a state of crises for hours, with authorities confined to a room, and were later rescued by police.

The protest went beyond the school, students also staged violent protests in parts of Garowe, hurling stones at vehicles, damaging them.

The Gambol High School students have been complaining for a long time, lodging several complaints with the Puntland Ministry of Education, which fell on deaf ears.

Gambol High School is run by the Puntland state government, it was considered to be one of the best schools in the region, but in recent years there has been a significant decline in its management.
