Garoowe June 21, 2023 (SD) -A ceasefire was successfully brokered on Wednesday to end the clashes in the city of Garowe, aimed at restoring peace and stability to the capital of Nugal region.
Reports indicate that the situation in the city of Garowe has now calmed down after the recent outbreak of violence that engulfed the city for days.
Various appeals have been made to both sides, including the International Community, the President and the Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and Hamza Abdi Barre, urging an end to the violence in Garowe. They have also emphasized the need for meaningful dialogue and a peaceful resolution to the disputes.
The resumption of normalcy for residents and businesses has begun, although some commercial areas are still affected, with concerns of potential further clashes and disruptions.
The recent fighting in Garowe resulted in the deaths of at least 30 people. It has been one of the deadliest conflicts in Garowe since the establishment of Puntland.
Furthermore, prominent figures in the community, traditional elders, and local intellectuals have called for active participation in finding a solution to the conflict.
