Goobjoog Editor transferred to Central Prison in Mogadishu

Mogadishu (SD) – Goobjoog Media Group Editor Abdiaziz Gurbiye has been transferred to Central Prison in Mogadishu without any charges, making it the second day he is in government custody.

Gurbiye was arrested yesterday in Mogadishu, he was asked to come to the detention center by authorities at Hodan district police station in Banadir region.

Goobjoog Media Group issued a press release on Abdiaziz Gurbiye’s arrest, denouncing the arrest of the journalist, describing it as unlawful and illegal act.

The Federation of Somali Journalists strongly condemned the arrest of Goobjoog editor Abdiaziz Ahmed Gurbiye. It is not clear the reason behind his arrest. Journalist’s cases are a civil matter rather than criminal case, making his detention worrying during COVID-19 pandemic.

Source said the Editor’s arrest was ordered by the Office of President Mohamed Farmaajo, Goobjoog News can authoritatively reveal.
