SHAATOOLE (SD) – Somali government forces and Al-Shabaab fighters have clashed in Shaatoole area of Gedo region, according to local sources.
The two clashed after the federal government forces launched an operation between Dolow and Luuq districts in Gedo region.
The fighting is reported to have caused casualties on both sides, but the exact number of casualties is not yet known.
The operation’s aimed to reopen roads in Gedo region that have been besieged by Al-Shabaab militants.
Somali government forces have in recent weeks engaged in military operations to reopen isolated areas and districts in Hiraan, Middle Shabelle, Bay and Bako, and Gedo regions.
