MOGADISHU-Somalia Government Spokesman, Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimuu, for the first time discussed, the details of the January 16th bombing in Mogadishu which targeted him.
In an interview with BBC Somali service, Moalimuu reported that given the magnitude of the blast and the short distance it was, it was a miracle that he survived the explosion.
Reports from the Spokesman express that his condition is improving, and he has been receiving treatment at a hospital in Istanbul, Turkey.
“I broke my right thigh and arm, and a bullet entered my body. Now I am trying to walk, and day by day my condition is improving,” said Maalimuu.
He added, “When I left my house, I was thrilled to go to work, but within seconds the whole situation shifted. My nephew who was driving the car told me to get off and that we are leaving.”
He pointed out that the suicide bomber was very close in proximity, and only God’s will has saved them.
Maalimuu stated that after the explosion, his immediate instincts told him that he had lost parts of his body.
Maalimuu expressed that he has previously worked in tough situations occurring in Mogadishu today, and that he is optimistic that his country’s security is improving daily.
Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimuu said he is still competing for a seat in the Somali parliament in HirShabelle state.
