Beledweyne June 18, 2023 (SD) – Troops loyal to the Governor of Hiiraan, Ali Jeyte Osman, have taken control of certain areas in the city of Beledweyne, the capital of Hiiraan region.

The tensions rose following a decree issued last night by the office of the President of the HirShabelle region, stating that the Governor of the Hiran region, Ali Jeyte Osman, who played a major role in the fight against Al-Shabaab, was removed from his post.

The governor of Hiraan region who responded to the removal from office, held a press conference in Beledweyne, and said that Hiraan region will leave HirShabelle from now on.

Forces under Ali Jeyte’s command have occupied strategic locations within the city of Beledweyne, including the main road to Ugaas Khaliif airport.

Furthermore, reports indicate that other troops loyal to the Deputy President of Hirshabelle Administration, Yusuf Dabageed, are mobilising against the former Governor of Hiiraan, Ali Jeyte, who has been relieved of his duties last night.

However, the situation in the city of Beledweyne is tense. If the tension escalates, it could potentially lead to a full-scale conflict between the forces of the Hiiraan Regional Administration and the supporters of the former Governor of Hiiraan, Ali Jeyte Osman.
