Heritage Institute’s Forum for Ideas concludes in Garowe

Garowe (SD) – The Heritage Institute’s three-day Forum for Ideas and Consultation concluded on Saturday, In Garowe, the capital of Puntland State of Somalia.

The conference was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia, Speakers of both Houses of Parliament, Three Heads of State, members of the Union of Presidential Candidates Union, Civil Society Organizations & other members.

The Heritage Institute conference debated and addressed 4 key issues of governance in Somalia.

The forum commended the efforts of the Somali Ministry of Constitution & Independent Constitutional Commissions, which have conducted valuable studies and presented sensitive articles on the Constitution.

The Forum expressed concern over the recurring differences between the two levels of government, acknowledged the lack of completion of the federalism clauses as a cause of the current dispute, and called for solutions.

The forum commended the government forces in their fight against Al-Shabaab and ISIS, but regretted that the security agreement reached between the federal government and the states, which was signed in May 2017 in London, had not been implemented.

The Forum welcomes the political process that began in Dhusamareb 1, 2, and 3 and ended on 17 September at Villa Somalia, but the Forum is concerned about differences over the non-implementation of the Agreement.

The Forum thanked the Puntland people and Administration for their warm welcome to the participants of the conference and the Heritage Institute leadership for organizing the conference.
