HARGEISA (SD) -The Somaliland Human Rights Commission, which visited MP Mohamed Abib in Jail, has called for the swift provision of justice that the MP is entitled to.
In a statement released after the visit, the Commission reported that MP Abib stated he did not know why he was detained, and that his equipment and belongings were seized by the police. He also mentioned that he was treated well during his arrest and is currently detained at Madheera Prison.
“The Commission expresses concern over the detention of the MP, noting that the Parliament he belongs to has refused to lift the immunity and that Article 27(2) — which guarantees the right to be brought before a court within 48 hours — has not been observed,” the statement said.
This morning, the Somaliland House of Representatives again rejected a request from the Attorney General, who has refused to appear before the House. Some MPs are calling for the Parliament to withdraw its confidence in the Attorney General.
