ICRC recovers 42 bodies around Las Anod

Las Anod September 04, 2023 (SD) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has reported that 42 bodies have been retrieved in the recent clashes in Sool. The ICRC has also visited more than 300 detainees from Somaliland forces captured in the fighting in Las Anod.

ICRC’s statement mentioned that in the past two weeks, 110 injured individuals have been taken to hospitals, while 42 others have been evacuated from conflict areas to receive assistance.

“It is crucial that all detainees, on both sides, are treated in accordance with international humanitarian law. This means that every detainee must receive food and water under humane conditions,” said the ICRC.

The conflict in the region has been ongoing since the beginning of the year, resulting in significant loss of life and extensive property damage, displacing tens of thousands of people from their homes.
