Mogadishu Feb 14, 2023 (SD) – International partners said they condemn the ongoing violence in the city of Las Anod, with a significant increase in the attacks targeting civilians.
“International partners* strongly condemn the continued violence in Laascaanood and express serious concern about reports regarding the mobilization of armed groups.” said the Partners.
The city of Las Anod has been witnessing deadly clashes between the Somaliland military and local militias, resulting in the death of unknown number of people and injuring many others, including health workers.
The international community’s statement reads, “We are also deeply concerned about the shelling of civilian infrastructure, which has resulted in casualties and widespread displacement. Attacks against civilians must stop immediately.”
The international community calls for all parties to engage in dialogue, cease hostilities, and work towards finding a lasting solution for peace.
“We urge all sides to adhere to the ceasefire, exercise restraint, and engage in constructive dialogue to establish a pathway towards a peaceful resolution.” The international community’s statement read.
Adding “We reiterate our call for unhindered humanitarian access to urgently address the needs of those displaced and impacted by the ongoing violence.”
The international partners statement comes as the fighting in Las Anod went into its ninth day and is further escalating by the day.
