Bossaso (SD) – The Islamic State group has issued a long statement announcing the death of Khalid Jama Mohamed aka Osman Abu Osama al-Muhajir, an ISIS operative operating inside Somalia.
The ISIS statement said Abu Osama al-Muhajir, a key member of the media operations of Wilayat al-Somali, a branch of ISIS, had been killed, he was killed in a missile strike by Africom drones in the mountains of Puntland’s Bari region.
Osama al-Muhajir, was a former member of al-Shabaab’s senior media outlet.
He joined al-Shabab around 2010, receiving military training at al-Shabaab camps in the Somali capital Mogadishu and the Bay and Bakol regions.
He also was wounded in clashes between al-Shabaab and the Somali Transitional Federal Government (TFG) and African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) forces.
Al-Shabaab later sentenced him to one year and eight months in prison, after he was found to have had contact with and tried to join ISIS.
Sources say that Osman eventually succeeded in joining the Daesh in Puntland, where the group made their presence in Somalia.
