Jubaland and Puntland jointly reject the Dhusamareb 3 election agreement

Garowe (SD) – The regional administrations of Jubaland and Puntland have issued a joint statement rejecting the Dhusamareb-3 conference agreement reached on the 20th of this month.

The Presidents of Jubaland and Puntland, Ahmed Mohamed Islam and Said Abdullahi Deni, on teleconference today discussed the political and security situation in Somalia, then released a joint statement.

“The Governments of Jubaland and Puntland, while respecting the views of the participants, state that the provisions of the Dhusamareb Conference on 19 August 2020 on the proposal for the country’s electoral process are limited to the participating leaders, namely the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia and the Presidents of Galmudug, Hirshabelle and Southwest, ”the statement said.

The presidents of Jubaland and Puntland underlined that there was an increased political crisis between Dhusamareb 2 and 3, which forced them to boycott Dhusamareb conference 3.

Jubaland and Puntland said they were “always ready for any inclusive effort to achieve the 2020/2021 elections, that takes place on time and to agree on the technical and administrative process of the election. ”
