Jubaland forces fire at a Federal Government airplane

KISMAYU (SD) – Jubaland has claimed that it shot down an aircraft yesterday afternoon, which was heading towards the Ras Kamboni area in the Lower Juba region, having taken off from the capital, Mogadishu.

According to a statement from Jubaland, the plane was carrying supplies for government troops stationed in the Ras Kamboni area, where intense military activities had recently occurred.

The statement further indicated that the aircraft failed to land as planned and instead veered towards the Kenyan border, where it eventually crashed.

Jubaland had previously banned aircraft from landing directly in Ras Kamboni, exacerbating tensions with the Somali government. In response, the Somali government imposed its restrictions, halting all flights to areas under Jubbaland’s control.
