MOGADISHU (SD) – Some members of Somalia’s Federal Parliament representing Jubaland have accused the Federal Government—specifically the offices of the President and Prime Minister—of orchestrating plots and mobilization efforts along the Somalia-Kenya border.
In a joint statement released today, the MPs claimed they are closely monitoring a scheme in which federal government officials, senior military officers, and former Jubaland officials are recruiting and organizing militia forces.
The MPs further alleged that the federal government is providing financial and military support to these militias, positioning them along the border between Jubaland and Kenya. They accused the government of trying to create instability and insecurity by sending militia forces into Kenya to operate like insurgents and launch attacks in peaceful border areas.
The lawmakers warned federal leaders to abandon this plan and withdraw individuals already deployed to border regions.
Finally, they called on the Jubaland administration and its people to remain vigilant against what they described as plots by the federal government to destabilize the region.
