Mogadishu (SD) – Jubba Express and WorldRemit are merging to give Somalis the opportunity to receive remittances from family and friends who live in more than 40 Countries around the world.

Remittances, which account for 24% of the country’s gross domestic product, play an important role in the development and livelihoods of many Somalis help to access food, shelter, education, health services and run their own small businesses.
“Somalis can easily send money home knowing that they are helping their family and friends to create new and important opportunities for each family member. In addition, this connection will accelerate the digital growth of remittances.” according to Ahmed Tani, the Country Director at WorldRemit.
The recipient does not need to have a smartphone and can easily withdraw money from Juba Express remittance centers and branches throughout Somalia.
According to the World Bank, about $ 1.4 billion in remittances are sent to Somalia each year by an estimated two million Somalis in the diaspora.
