MOGADISHU (SD) – The last five seats of 11 senatorial seats allocated to Somaliland have been concluded following election under tight security took place in Somali capital.
According to Somaliland’s State Indirect Elections Team (SIET), four senators have easily emerged winners after their opponents withdrew from the race.
Only Naima Mohamud Hassan and Muna Omar Hassan presented themselves on the ballot.
Muna who has been serving for the last four years has lost to Naima by 30 votes to 13.
All other four candidates sailed through through without competition after their opponents pulled out of the game.
On Wednesday, the 46 delegates representing Somaliland had elected senators among them two serving minister, the outgoing Upper House Speaker and a well-known professor, Abdi Ismail Samatar.
The conclusion of today’s vote now brings to 46 the number of senators elected countrywide so far.
