Malta arrests three over murder of Somali national

MOGADISHU (SD) – The government of Malta has arrested at least five people over a workplace accident that claimed the life of Somali national Ahmed Adawe Diriye.

According to police, two men were arrested and are being investigated over the accident. Another three were spoken to under caution, which means they are being treated as suspects.

A magisterial inquiry led by Magistrate Leonard Caruana is ongoing. The Occcupational and Health Authority is carrying out a separate investigation into the case.

The body of Diriye, 39 years old Somali national was found at Mater Dei Hospital barely days after a formal missing person’s report was filed with the police.

A relative of Diriye, the deceased used to be in daily contact with his family in Somalia, but communication with them came to an abrupt halt last week.

Diriye came to Malta in 2004 where he has been residing here ever since. Described by friends as a very hard-working man, he provided for his wife and children who were living in Somalia.
