MOGADISHU (SD) – Mogadishu official has died from IED explosion in the northern suburb of Somali capital, Mogadishu, Somali information minister has confirmed Tuesday.
In a statement, the ministry said Abdi Mohamed Mohamud who was the deputy in charge of security and political affairs in Daynile district succumbed to injuries in the mid-morning incident in Daru-salam area.
“Terrorist attack using a landmine killed on Tuesday, Daynile Deputy District Commissioner Abdi Mohamed Mohamud,” the statement reads in part.
Al-Shabaab militant group has claimed the responsibility for the attack.
The attack adds to such increasing attacks against local district officials in Mogadishu amid a fragile security situation following the ongoing electoral stalemate.
