Museveni: we can resolve Somalia crises

April 28, 2023 (QJ) – Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, the Chairman of the Troop Contributing Countries (TCCs) to the African Union Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), has announced that they can resolve the conflict in Somalia.

During a press conference of the TCCs held last Thursday at the Presidential Palace in Entebbe, President Museveni expressed Africa’s longstanding history of resolving conflicts, citing the examples of Idi Amin’s Uganda, Tanzania, and Burundi conflicts. He said that he is confident they can also resolve the ongoing conflict in Somalia.

The summit was attended by the leaders of Somalia, Djibouti, Burundi, Kenya, and the Ethiopian Foreign Minister. Other attendees included the Head of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), the Head of IGAD’s Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS), and senior officials from the African Union Commission.

The summit endorsed the African Union Mission in Somalia’s efforts to fulfill its mandate, including support for political progress and peacebuilding in Somalia. The President of Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelleh, and the President of Kenya, Dr. William Ruto, agreed to cooperate in advancing the troop-contributing country’s interests.
