Hargeisa (SD) – The leadership of the two opposition parties UCID and Wadani on Saturday met in Hargeisa with the Ambassador of the European Union to Somalia Amb Nicolas Berlanga.

The two parties WADDANI and UCID represented by the chairman of UCID Eng. Faysal Ali Warabe and the interim chairman of WADDANI party Mr. Abdikadir Haji Ismail Jirde discussed the acceleration of the joint elections for the House of Representatives and the local councils.

The meeting focused on the financial costs of the elections and the role of women and youth in the elections and how they can play their part in holding the elections and included in the elected councils.

Leaders of both parties shared with Ambassador Berlanga their commitment to holding the elections and considering how the youth and women can play an active role in elections and political participation.

Since Somaliland’s parliamentary houses dismissed quota for marginalized groups its now totally up to the three national parties in ensuring that Women and minority groups get representation in all of the elected councils.
