Somaliland: Opposition parties to travel to Kenya to meet with election donors

Hargeisa (SD) – Leaders of Somaliland’s opposition parties have left for Kenya today, where they will meet with Somaliland’s election donors.

The new chairman of the opposition Waddani party, Hirsi Haji Ali Hassan has confirmed to local media, that the two opposition parties will travel to Nairobi today.

He said that they would hold talks with countries that support Somaliland’s elections, and ask them to assist Somaliland with the upcoming Presidential election budget and other technical issues.

“After a heartfelt greeting, today the two opposition parties UCID and Waddani are on a working visit to Nairobi, Kenya, where we will hold meetings with election donors, to support us with any shortcomings or technical support required by the National Electoral Commission.” Hersi told reporters.

The Somaliland Electoral Commission recently returned from Nairobi where they meet with election donors.

The ruling party did not accompany the opposition parties on their trip to Nairobi, perhaps a sign that they are not interested in elections talks with anyone.
