MOGADISHU (SD) -While inaugurating the National Week for Fisheries Development, Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre stated that it is time for the Somali people to benefit from the abundant resources in their seas.
The Prime Minister announced that the government plans to have 50% of the national budget derived from fisheries in the coming years. Emphasizing the importance of utilizing this sector, he pointed out that focusing on fisheries could significantly improve the country’s economy.
Hamza called on Somali entrepreneurs to invest in the country’s fishing industry, taking advantage of opportunities in international markets. He assured his government would prioritize building essential infrastructure, especially ports and roads connecting Somalia’s coastal areas.
Expressing gratitude to the Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy for organizing the event, the Prime Minister urged the Somali people to protect their country and its wealth from any adversaries attempting to seize them.
