Mogadishu (SD) – The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia Mohamed Hussein Roble met with the Speaker of the Upper House of the Federal Parliament Abdi Hashi Abdillahi and the Deputy Prime Minister Mahdi Mohamed Guled.
The PM was awaiting a mutually agreed solution to the dispute over the election of the chairperson of the Northern Regional Electoral Commission.
A brief statement released by Federal Government Spokesman Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimuu, said the meeting was an opportunity for the prime minister to reach an agreement on the dispute over the election of the chairman of the Northern Regional Electoral Commission.
The spokesman also said that speaker Abdi Hashi Abdillahi had asked the Prime Minister for one more day, for a final decision, and the PM accepted the request.
The meeting come just hours after the Speaker of the Upper House Abdi Hashi Abdillahi warned against holding a unilateral election.
Abdi Hashi speaking at that meeting said that Deputy Prime Minister Mahdi Guled’s faction is planning to hold its own elections without first resolving the dispute within the commission.
The dispute within the Somaliland Electoral Commission escalated recently as Prime Minister Roble says he is hard at work for a solution to the dispute between politicians from the northern regions of the country.
