PM Roble releases frozen $12 Million to help Hargeisa Fire Victims

MOGADISHU (SD) – Somalia’s Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has released nearly $12 million in aid for the people of Somaliland affected by the fire that destroyed Waheen Market in Hargeisa.

A statement from Prime Minister Roble’s office said $ 11,700,000 was part of an international grant for Somaliland development projects sent through the Somali government.

“Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has ordered the immediate release of $11,700,000 in Federal Government of Somalia accounts, an international grant. for development projects in Somaliland, to strengthen emergency response to the catastrophic fire that destroyed the main market in Hargeisa. ”” said PM Roble.

The fire that destroyed the Waheen Central Market is estimated to have costed more than $2 billion, due to lack of fire fighters having access and that it took 12 hour to get the fire under control.

Roble’s office did not provide details on how the money came to be and why it was initially withheld, but it is money that will go a long way in addressing the urgent needs of Somalilanders.
